Salt Lake City, Utah - June 1, 2004 - Tandem Labs, a leading bioanalytical contract research organization (CRO), named Luca Matassa, Ph.D., as Laboratory Director at Tandem Labs, Salt Lake City, announced Patrick Bennett, Vice President and Senior Laboratory Director.
Dr. Matassa will be joining Patrick Bennett from the Salt Lake City operations and Ed Brewer from the New Jersey operations on the scientific laboratory management team. His responsibilities will include leading the Tandem Labs' GLP laboratory operations in Salt Lake City.

"With his extensive scientific expertise in the area of mass spectrometry and his longevity in the bioanalytical setting, Dr. Matassa will be instrumental in the continued success and growth of Tandem Labs."
Dr. Matassa joins Tandem Labs with 15 years of scientific and operations experience in the advanced bioanalytical sector of the CRO industry. He earned his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 1989. He has published over 43 scientific papers and posters primarily focused on the use of LC/MS/MS for quantitative bioanalysis. Dr. Matassa was instrumental in establishing the first API LC/MS/MS-based contract bioanalytical laboratory in Canada. From 1989 to 2000, Dr. Matassa served in successive positions at Maxxam Analytics, Inc. (formerly NOVOMANN, Inc., Mann Testing Laboratories), including manager of the Bioanalytical Department. Since 2000, Dr. Matassa has been responsible for the establishment and operations of a high-throughput bioanalytical laboratory for Covance Bioanalytical Services, LLC as associate director of operations. Combining Dr. Matassa's extensive bioanalytical knowledge, leadership skills, and long-range planning experience with Tandem Labs' present and future vision is a winning partnership for success.
